IMAGINE – ONE WORLD

Imagine – One World

In a camp for envisioning the soul of the world John stated, ‘The goal is to become a citizen of the World;’

‘Let all countries like UK, USA, USSR, Australia, Canada, Thailand, Philippines, India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Pakistan belong to one organisation – the World. Any citizen of this organisation, would work and earn livelihood anywhere in the World.

‘Visa or work-permit won’t be required for moving from one country to another.

‘Countries have fought many wars to define their borders. Citizens of a country inherit the privileges of the country.

‘We want the citizen of the World to inherit the same privileges irrespective of the country of birth.

‘Let’s brainstorm to find ways to move people between countries.’

The camp endeavoured to identify what must be changed to allow a person to become a citizen of the World, and what the associated rights and responsibilities should be. The group thought, they must abolish all formalities and regulations of visa and work permits.

The first step was to set up a political party called World Organisation [WO] for controlling all countries of the world. Some of the responsibilities of WO might overlap with those of UNO or United Nations Organisation.  Which country should WO belong to? To UNO? To a multinational company registered in many countries?

The camp decided that WO won’t be registered at all; a group could be set up on a social media like Face Book or LinkedIn, where members from all different countries would be inducted. A handful of people would control the entry and exit of members from this group. No legal restrictions of any country would be applicable to WO, which would set up its own rules and regulations for the welfare of the world.

The camp analysed feasibility and modus operandi of WO.  WO should first study what regulations of visa and work permits were prevalent in all countries. Then respective countries should be requested to abolish the regulations which are deemed restrictive by WO.

If those restrictive regulations were not abolished, then WO would organise mass disobedience of these regulations. But who would organise mass disobedience and how? They all shared a fear of failure. If any of them were caught during mass disobedience, the person(s) could be sentenced to life imprisonment; the court cases could lead them to bankruptcy; many of them could be killed; many could be totally devastated. The Camp ended, not with much success, but promises to do something without bending the rules and rigours. John realised he needed people who are prepared to sacrifice everything they have for realising a vision; John thought, his old friend Norton could be another Gandhi for inspiring non-violent mass disobedience.

John couldn’t dedicate his own life for the sake of his vision, nor could Janet inspire him for a cause that mattered little to her. Story was no different for other couples. They all had to care for their families, their children; they couldn’t pledge their time and money to WO.  Charles and Ambra, though not married, thought it was more important to get a small world of love and trust than to strive for WO.  But John could share his vision with Norton who didn’t waste any time. The very first thing Norton realised that setting up WO would require international collaboration; for this gigantic project first help he solicited was from his life’s inspiration Paloma, who readily responded.

Paloma preached about One World to the people who gathered in her institution to take shelter away from the corrupt and insensitive families and friends; she taught them how to trust in God and win the hearts of friends and families; she started to instil into their hearts the idea of God’s World – One World for all people.

John forewarned Paloma that this movement for One Organisation shouldn’t be transformed into the movement for One Religion. Secular countries were already conscious of increasing supremacy of fundamentalists. Paloma checked that WO should be devoted to God worshipped by all religions, not any single religion.

Norton was already active in the social media – Twitter and Face Book. With the help of the campaign manager of Vauxhallites, he prepared a short 10 minute video on how technological revolution had brought the world together and how the people of the world would be benefitted if anyone could live and work anywhere in the world. He posted the video on Twitter and Face Book; it didn’t take even a week to get 50 million hits; a million people from all over the world offered to collaborate with Norton. So far Norton haven’t trusted friends outside his motherland; now he started Skype interviews with people of many different countries and set up a well-knit organisation, spanned worldwide.

While Norton and his close associates prepared a white paper on WO; they started collaboration with people smuggling groups of various countries. They researched on various ways of people smuggling – sending boat load of people to foreign countries, dropping paratroopers in foreign countries, taking help of the army of the country, building tunnels beneath the country borders for smuggling drugs and people, flying people across the border without visa and immigration check.

Charles and Ambra researched on pairs of countries separated by land borders. Most countries have at least one neighbouring country separated by a land border. Longest land border between two countries is 8,891km between Canada and United States. Longest single segments of land borders are:

Kazakhstan and Russia: 6,846km

Canada and United States: 6,414km

Argentina and Chile: 5,150km

Charles and Ambra located on the world map, all land borders between countries.

United States’ land border with Mexico is 3,141km long. Norton planned to mobilise WO supporters to buy land in the bordering towns on both sides of the border. New houses would be constructed; under the cover of construction work tunnels would be built beneath the border; these tunnels would enable smuggling of people from the house in the bordering town of one country [say Mexico] to the house in the bordering town of the other country [say United States]. All people smuggling needn’t be done simultaneously, but done whenever convenient between the two countries connected by hidden tunnels.

Burke coined the idea of marriages between WO supporters of different countries. He said, ‘Inter-caste marriages remove the boundaries among different castes. Inter-country marriages would remove boundaries between countries.’

Burgess objected because recently a few overseas girls married Kanadian boys only to become a permanent Kanadian resident. Burke explained that the goal was legal immigration; wedded partners would be prepared to get divorced later. Norton worked on this idea: the person from developed countries would travel and marry spouses from developing countries; after wedding both partners would reside in the developed country.

Alex and Celine considered using the paratrooper for moving people from one country to another. The word AIRBORNE speaks volumes to those who knew what these paratroopers once were, and still are. These paratroopers were perhaps a crazy bunch, but they got the job done. One veteran paratrooper said to all comrades, ‘For those of you who are still in, give it all you have; you will not regret it. Airborne all the way, do or die; come home with your shield, or on it.’

Norton considered, paratrooper migration won’t be feasible; Owing to the limited capacity of cargo aircraft, paratroopers rarely jumped in groups larger than 20 from one aircraft. Also, because of radar controls over planes in the sky, it won’t be possible for the aircraft to enter the sky over a foreign country.

Around this time one online dating advertisement appeared in the Internet offering free flights to beautiful persons. One may respond either as an Attractive Traveller or as a Generous Traveller.

Attractive Travellers love to travel, but lack the budget. They would look for Generous Travellers who would pay for their partners’ travel either in cash or in frequent flyer miles.

Generous Travellers get free access to this website; they need to pay only when they communicate with any Attractive Traveller.

Both Attractive and Generous travellers may search the hundreds of thousands of real members worldwide. One may choose to email a member directly, or send a Travel Invitation via the website.

Using this online dating site, two members travel together, the Generous Traveller pays all travel expenses.

John preferred to be aloof from this online dating website which might lure beautiful girls to prostitution.

This was the time when the wife’s family of four girls, born in the husband’s country, made a very public bid to prevent the children from being sent back to the husband’s country to have a custody dispute heard in the court system of the husband’s country. The court of the country had to follow the International Convention, signed by both countries

Men’s Rights Agency of the wife’s country said the apparent outpouring of sympathy for the children’s mother was reflective of men’s poor standing in such situations; many fathers are left behind by mothers abducting children both within a country and internationally.

John thought, had the world been one country, the custody battle could have been fought in any court of the world, using virtual courts, if needed.

This was the time, when a German policeman wasn’t permitted to move to Kanadia with his autistic stepdaughter, even though his 25year old daughter was having two jobs and volunteering with the Scout movement. He was offered a job as a constable at a remote coast of Kanadia, and was due to start work as soon as his visa was approved. His family had to continue in Europe.

John and Norton thought, had the world been one organisation, then this policeman won’t have problem of relocating to Kanadia.

This was the time, when boat loads of asylum seekers were drowning at sea, while trying to reach the shores of developed countries. One billionaire said that the government of involved countries should allow asylum seekers to fly into the developed country at 1/10th of the cost of coming on people smugglers’ boats. He requested the government to allow asylum seekers to pay their own plane fare into developed countries; process them for immigration; the ones not found legitimate would be sent back on the next flight. He urged the government to follow international responsibilities of allowing people to arrive safely.

This was the time when the world’s understanding of the origin of the universe had taken a historic leap forward with the discovery of a subatomic particle that scientists believe to be the Higgs boson or “God particle”.  The discovery had been hailed as virtual proof of the Standard Model of physics that describes the interactions of all known subatomic particles and forces. According to the Standard Model, the Higgs boson is the manifestation of the so-called Higgs field, an invisible energy field filling all space. The Higgs gives mass to other subatomic particles such as protons, neutrons, quarks and leptons.

This was the time when the frequency of identity theft was rising fast. It was becoming difficult for the real person to prove his/her identity. Norton used identity theft tricks to camouflage his comrades; many of them had same names, similar handwriting, similar mannerism and voice. If one of these identical comrades moves from country-A to country-B, another pairing comrade would continue in country-A, as if no one has moved. These comrades appeared to be omnipresent and omnipotent in multiple countries.

This was the time when super-rich people from developing countries were migrating more and more to developed countries for investing there and having better lives for themselves and their next generation. In 2006, only 63 persons migrated from China to USA on Special Exit Visa; while in 2011 2044 persons migrated.

History was created at Wellington airport on the 8th August. The first international flight of the day was to depart at 6am for Philadelphia; four check-in counters for economy class and two for business/first class opened at 2:30am so that passengers could be checked in 3 hours prior to the departure. Passengers queued for those counters. 4 passengers were asked to come forward to the 4 economy class counters and two business class counters ushered two business class passengers.

‘Sir, your ticket and passport please’, said the Airways staff in the first check-in counter. The passenger handed over the documents. The Airways staff looked at the e-ticket and said, ‘so you’re travelling to Philadelphia’, then she looked into the passport, matched the face of the passenger with the photo of the passport; it was alright; then she turned the pages of the passport to find the visa to US; there was none.

‘I don’t find your visa to US; I can’t check you in. Do you have the visa in your old passport? If yes, please show me that passport.’

‘I don’t need any visa to US; I am a citizen of the World.’ The passenger replied.

‘No, Sir.’ The Airways staff replied, ‘You are a New Zealand citizen, I can’t let you board the plane without the visa. Do you have any luggage to check in?’

‘No; I’ve only this cabin bag.’ The passenger replied.

‘Please stand aside and let the next passenger come forward.’ Said the staff and glanced at the other check-in counters. She was overwhelmed as she heard the same words from five other check-in staff.

None of these passengers had any luggage to be checked in; each was carrying only a cabin baggage. None of them had US visa stamped in the passport. None of them stood aside to let the next passenger come forward. The airport staff looked at the queue of passengers; none of them were carrying any big bags to check in; as if all of them had come here for a bus ride.

In each counter, the passenger showed the air ticket and passport, but no visa for US.  One of the Airways staff phoned their boss to ask for instructions. The boss of the Airways was at a loss; he asked the top boss of Wellington airport. Security forces were mobilised to arrest the passengers who refused to move from the check-in counter unless boarding passes were issued. Six passengers were arrested, moved the next six passengers to the check-in counters; none of these passengers had visas attached to their passports; none agreed to step aside to let the next passengers come forward; so they were all arrested.

Next six passengers moved to check-in counters; none of them had visas attached to passports, none of them agreed to step aside to let the next passengers come forward; so they were all arrested.

This continued till all 215 prospective passengers were arrested; no boarding pass was issued, no luggage was checked in.

Baggage handlers got worried when no luggage was passed to them for two hours after the start of check-in. They came to see what was happening at the check-in counters. The flight crew was sent messages about delay in boarding the passengers for the flight; they should wait for the next message before starting for the airport. The flight was cancelled and all prospective passengers arrested.

The next flight to leave Wellington Airport had the same fate, as all the passengers booked for the flight appeared without any visa in the passport. The flight after that had the same fate, and all the remaining flights of the day weren’t any different. No international flights took off from Wellington on that day. Soon the news was received from other airports of New Zealand – Auckland, Christchurch and so on. No flight has departed from New Zealand.

Hours later same sets of events started in Singapore, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur and other airports. Norton had set up his network in every country of the world and mobilised enough people to buy all tickets for all flights supposed to leave the airports on that day. All the tickets were brought on credit cards, along with travel insurance; Norton checked that that insurance company would pay the compensation if the flight hadn’t taken off at the scheduled hour and the passenger was not allocated a boarding pass; there was no clause for passenger’s inability to get the visa in time, because the ticket was issued.

This situation made an extra-ordinary impact for the aviation industry, the insurance companies, the airport staff, the airport security, even the prisons of the country. Most airlines checked their booking for the next weeks and found that the passengers with very similar names were supposed to fly in the forthcoming flights. One emergency meeting was convened by United Nations to address the plea of the aviation industry that had no other options but to let people fly without adequate visas. But the countries at the destination of the flights would have a big problem if the passengers arrive without adequate visas. But people all over the world wanted to fly without any visa; at least the bookings for next few days suggested that, what should United Nations decide now? Some wise men of United Nations could easily see the popularity of Norton over the social media; they thought Norton should be arrested and questioned to find out how things are going and how these could controlled. But how one would arrest Norton? Many persons were claiming to be Norton, a number of Norton-s are scattered all over the world; as if everyone in the world is a Norton.

Norton considered there should be a World Anthem to suit the citizens of the world; he begged and sought permission for using Imagine Lyrics of John Lennon. The citizens all over the world danced to the tune of IMAGINE:

Imagine there’s no heaven
It’s easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people living for today.

Imagine there’s no countries
It isn’t hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people living life in peace.

About Lateral

Lateral Collateral is an entity of one planet; phe is a person of no known gender. We don’t have a pronoun in our grammar to suit Collateral’s gender. We can’t use ‘he’ or ‘she’, so we shall use the pronoun ‘phe’; objective case of ‘phe’ is ‘phim’; ‘phes’ means – of or relating to phim, especially as possessor. Collateral wanted to know about the world, especially about the people living on the world. Phe doesn’t understand the languages, the religions, the rules and regulations of this world. It is a daunting task to know about so many people living on this world, so phe probed into the brain of few citizens of the world to extract the memoirs of their life and vision. Please excuse Collateral for phes lack of knowledge about the languages, the religions, the rules and regulations of this world. Phe doesn’t know what we call obscene or illegal. Please listen to phim and check if phe makes any sense to you.
